— Frigging cops.
— They're just doing their job.
— No, they're doing our job. Only they don't know it, so they suck at it.
— Not all cops are morons.
— I bet some are drunkards, crooks or idiots.
So, still got some friends in the force. It's Lestrade. Says they're all coming over here now. Queuing up to slap on the handcuffs. Every officer you've ever made feel like a tit, which is a lot of people.
— What made you join the force, Bruce?
— Police oppression, brother. I'd witnessed far too many cases of it in the mining community I grew up in.
— And you wanted to stamp it out from the inside?
— No, I wanted to be a part of it.
Lassard: — What is the most frustrating thing about police work?
Tackleberry: — Not being able to carry hand grenades.
Callahan: — Separate locker rooms, sir.
Mahoney: — Icky blue uniforms.
Lassard: — I always thought that the most frustrating thing was that... we couldn't be everywhere at once to solve every crime.
— Good afternoon, Walt.
— I told you I'm not going to confession.
— Why didn't you just call the police?
— What?
— I do work with some of the Hmong gang and I heard there was trouble in the neighborhood. Why didn't you call the police?
— Well… You know, I prayed that they would show up… but nobody answered.
— What were you thinking? Someone could have been killed. We're talking life and death here.
— When things go wrong, you gotta act quickly. When we were in Korea and a thousand screaming gooks came across our line we didn't call the police, we reacted.
— It's my fault, you know.
— What?
— His leaving. I thought I could take it.
— Don't ever say that.
— What?
— Just don't ever low-rate yourself.
— What I meant was, whatever it takes to be a cop's wife... I'm just not sure I'm making it. He really tries, and these bastards... you know, «pig» this, «pig» that.
Every policeman has at least one unsolved case to obsess over.
