The academy is too large and too vulgar. Whenever I have gone there, there have been either so many people that I have not been able to see the pictures, which was dreadful, or so many pictures that I have not been able to see the people, which was worse.
— I think you should learn to paint with oils. The crayons give your work a naive feeling. You should free your subconscious. Paint with more depth.
— I paint to forget myself, to get outside of myself. I don't want depth.

William: — It was sort of sweet, actually. I mean, I know she's an actress and all that, so she can deliver a line, but she said she might be as famous as she can be but also that she was just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.
