New York police officer Ralph Sarchie investigates a series of crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest, schooled in the rites of exorcism, to combat the possessions that are terrorizing their city.
— I'm a Jesuit priest.
— Ain't they the priests you always read about? Dying in bed with hookers and shit?
— There are worse ways to go.
— You see, Father, as we speak, every day, out there, someone's getting hurt, ripped off, murdered, raped. Where's God when all that's happening?
— In the hearts of people like you, who put a stop to it.
I mean, we can talk all night about the problem of evil, but what about the problem of good? I mean, if there's no God, if the world is just "survival of the fittest," then why are all the men in this room willing to lay down their lives for total strangers?
I've experienced two types of evil in this life, Officer Sarchie. Secondary evil, the evil that men do. I'm sure you know all about that. I've seen enough. And primary evil, which is something
else entirely.
