I remember going into the garden with my mother and picking tomatoes... Really ripe, red ones in August. Bringing them into the kitchen, still warm from the sun. She'd put slices on fresh bread, add good olive oil, sea salt and fresh ground pepper and say: "Jacques, you'll never eat better". She was right. The best food in the world is straight from the garden with very little done to it. Authentic.
You're a very serious young woman... I didn't quite mean it as a compliment. It sounds as though you're hurrying somewhere in such a way that the journey will yield very little pleasure. Slow down. College should not necessarily be about narrowing your focus. It's about broadening your experience.

Complications set in — yes, complications. How many times have we heard: 'it's simple'. Nothing is simple. We live in a world where nothing is simple. Each day, just when we think we have a handle on things, suddenly some new element is introduced and everything is complicated once again. What is the secret? What is the secret to simplicity, to the pure and simple life? Are our appetites, our desires undermining us? Is the cart in front of the horse?
Simplicity, truth and naturalness are the three great principles of beauty in all works of art.
Quite simple. Too simple for a learned lore-master in these suspicious days.
